Commercial Vinyl TapesDuct, cloth and vinyl tapes are a versatile family of tapes often known for the wide array of colors and patterns available. Cloth tapes, which typically include Duct Tape and Gaffers Tape, have a fabric backing that gives them high strength, yet allows them to be easily torn. Although they were primarily designed for specific industries such as air conditioning ducts and equipment, consumers and industries have found a broad range of uses for them. Gaffers Tape is much like Duct Tape, except that it typically does not have the shiny, slick surface that Duct Tape has and offers cleaner removability without residue. That is why it is used widely in audio visual, sound stage and conference setup applications where light reflection may be an issue. Vinyl tapes have similar uses as cloth tape, but since they are made from vinyl rather than fabric, they cannot be torn by hand. Vinyl tape resists wear, weathering and abrasion very well, making them a tough and long-lasting alternative to cloth tape. Since they are durable and remove cleanly, they are also a better alternative to paint for marking lanes or color coding in warehouses, pipe wrapping and cord bundling. Vinyl tape also stretches well allowing it to contour and conform to variable surfaces easily. Vinyl electrical tape, or insulating tape, is used to insulate areas such as wires or other areas that conduct electricity.
