Double Coated Bonding Tapes
Double-coated tapes are also commonly known as double sided or double faced tape. They may have either permanent or temporary bonding capabilities, depending upon the type and amount of adhesive applied to them.
Whether used for manufacturing, construction, exhibition, signage or anything in between, double-sided tapes are easier to apply and far less messy than liquid or spray adhesives. Many double-faced can be customized on either side in order to bond to metal, wood, plastic, composites, glass or other surfaces. They can deliver high performance in all conditions, from cold weather to high heat.
Most double coated tapes are found in three varieties: Double faced foam tapes, cloth tapes and paper tapes. Foam tapes are comprised of open or closed cell foams, and coated with acrylic or rubber-based adhesive on both sides. They are ideal for mounting, gasketing, vibration dampening and thermal control. Double-sided tapes tend to be more flexible with a heavy adhesive coating on both sides, allowing for mounting of irregular surfaces, where some stretch may be required. Examples would be carpet or flooring installation at an exhibit or conference. Finally, double coated paper tapes are hand tearable and used for general purpose bonding applications.
Getting expert advice in selecting the right double sided tape is crtitical. It will be important to consider the two surfaces you are bonding, whether re-positioning is required, what temperature resistance is needed and how much surface area is available for the bonding tape to work. SPECTAPE® not only buys double-coated tapes from the best suppliers in the industry, it also custom coats its own line of double sided tapes, allowing it to offer a variety of liners, carrier substrates and adhesive thicknesses.
